Nintendo Direct January 14, 2015

Nintendo shared several new announcements today, as well as premiered new trailers for upcoming games on their Direct this morning.  For those of you who where unable to watch it or don't feel like watching the full 46 minutes, here are the highlights.

New Fire Emblem Game:  Nintendo announced that there is a new Fire Emblem game in the works and showed off the trailer along with revealing a few of the new features.

Puzzles and Dragons Z + Puzzles and Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition Combo Announced:  Puzzles and Dragons is a smart phone game that blends puzzle games with RPG battles.  This edition seems to have a story mode and comes with a Super Mario Bros. Edition.

Pokemon Shuffle:  This is a new free-to-play puzzle game that features pokemon.  It looks similar to puzzles and dragons as it has you matching three or more pokemon on the puzzle board to do damage to the enemies you are facing.

Wii Games Now Available in Wii U eShop:  You can now download full Wii games that can be played without switching to Wii mode.  Super Mario Galaxy 2 is available today with Punch Out and Metroid Prime Trilogy following later this month.

Splatoon:  Character customization was shown off including clothing and weapon choices.  The game's central hub world was also shown off.  You will be able to interact with other player's characters via MiiVerse and choose the game mode from this hub that resembles Nintendoland's hub world.

Hyrule Warriors:  The DLC keeps coming with this announcement.  The Majora's Mask Pack will feature Tingle and Young Link as playable characters, as well as some new outfits for characters already available.

Xenoblade Chronicles X:  A new trailer was revealed that showed off several off several of the game's environments.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS:  More gameplay was shown for this game which is a port of the Wii game.

Mario vs Donkey Kong:  Tipping Stars:  This puzzle-platformer will feature user created levels that can be shared and introduces a tipping system where you can give the creators of your favorite levels 'tips' via in game stars.  The stars act as an in-game currency that allows you to buy new items to use in level creation.

New 3DS XL Release Date Revealed:  The New 3DS XL, which features a C-Stick, RZ and LZ buttons, a NFC reader for Amiibo Support, better 3D functionality, and better processing will be realeased on February 13, 2015 in North America and Europe.  A Monster Hunter 4 and a Majora's Mask LE will be available, as well.

Monster Hunter 4:  Some scenes were shown of this game as well as the limited edition n3DS bundle.

Majora's Mask:  More gameplay was shown as well as the limited edition n3DS bundle.

Codename S.T.E.A.M.:  More was shown of this game and Amiibo support was confirmed.  You will be able to use Fire Emblem Amiibo (Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin) to unlock those characters in the game.  It was also revealed that more Marth Amiibo are on the way later this year.

More Amiibo Announced:  Wave 4 of the Amiibo line was announced.  It will include Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Wario, Ness, and Charizard.  More Mario-themed Amiibo will be coming, too.  New figures for Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Bowser will be joined by an all new Toad Amiibo when Mario Party 10 gets released.  The new versions of the existing figures will have new poses but function the exact same way for all games.

Mario Party 10 Release Date Announced:  Mario Party 10 will be released on March 20 and include special character-themedd boards that are only accessible with compatible Amiibo.

Amiibo Functionality Detailed for Captain Toad and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse:  You can use the Toad Amiibo, once released, to unlock a hide and seek-type game.  An 8-bit Toad will hide in each course and you have to find it.  I think this is a neat way to add replayability to the game.  In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, you can use Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight Amiibo to unlcock special moves.

eShop Announcements:  Several games were announced as eShop only games.

Overall, I think it was a pretty good Direct.  There wasn't anything mind-blowing but we did get a few release dates and Amiibo answers.
